Lorain County JVS High School provides students in grades 9–12 with an immersive, hands-on education that merges academic rigor with technical training. By partnering with 13 associate school districts, our campus offers a career-focused alternative to traditional high school, preparing students for success in college, the workforce, or advanced training.

Our programs are deeply aligned with the needs of Ohio’s economy and the priorities of local industry. Students earn industry-recognized credentials, gain valuable work-based learning experience, and can graduate with college credit—making them career-ready and future-focused. Whether it’s advanced manufacturing, healthcare, public safety, culinary, or education, every student builds a competitive edge for what comes next.

Student Services

Supporting Every Step of Your Journey

Lorain County JVS is committed to student success—in the classroom, on the job site, and beyond. Our Student Services team offers personalized counseling and support to help students navigate academic planning, career pathways, and personal challenges. Every JVS student is assigned a counselor based on their associate school.

Counselors provide guidance on:
– Graduation requirements & scheduling
– College & career planning
– Scholarship opportunities
– Armed services information
– Tutoring & study skills
– Personal and family concerns
– Grief support and crisis response
– Learning accommodations

To visit a counselor during school hours, students must receive teacher permission and sign in at the Student Services front desk using the iPad.

    Selective Service Registration
    All male U.S. citizens (and some immigrants) ages 18–25 must register with the Selective Service. Register early to remain eligible for federal student aid, job training, and government employment.

    Students interested in applying for any Lorain County JVS scholarships listed below must complete the general scholarship application.
    All completed materials are due to Ms. West in the Student Services Office by April 4, 2025.

    How to Apply

    • Complete the 2024–2025 JVS Scholarship Application (one application covers all listed scholarships).

    • Submit your application to Ms. West, Student Services Office.

    • Deadline: Friday, April 4, 2025

    J. Edgar Martin Scholarship
    Established in 2004 from the estate of J. Edgar Martin, a generous benefactor of Lorain County JVS.

    James A. Berthold Board of Education Scholarship
    Funded by the family of former board member James A. Berthold and the JVS Board of Education.

    Janet Lowther McMinn & Robert McMinn Scholarship
    Presented by a retired Business Academy teacher and her husband to a student pursuing a business or education career at an Ohio college or business school.
    Selection by the JVS Teachers’ Association.

    Julie L. Hogan Memorial Scholarship
    Established in 2005 by family and friends in memory of Julie Hogan, a 1992 graduate of the JVS Marketing & Management program.

    Linda Diedrick Teacher Memorial Scholarship
    Honors former supervisor Linda Diedrick and all JVS educators who passed during their tenure.

    Lorain County JVS Tribute Scholarship
    Originally created in 2005 to remember former JVS students. Renamed in 2012 to also honor students, staff, and friends of the district.

    PTA / Lorain County JVS Teachers’ Association Scholarship
    Supported by the Lorain County JVS Educational Foundation, PTA, and Teachers’ Association.
    Note: May include multiple awards.

    Sandra Dodson Memorial Scholarship
    Established in 2019 by Gary Dodson in honor of his wife, Sandy, a beloved English instructor.
    Preference for students attending Lorain County Community College (LCCC). $2,000 award.

    William R. Burton Scholarship
    Created in 1994 by the JVS Teachers’ Association in memory of founding superintendent William R. Burton, a champion for high standards in career-tech education.

    William R. Randall Scholarship
    Established in 2008 by the JVS Teachers’ Association with support from family, staff, and friends of William R. Randall, JVS Superintendent (1999–2007), in recognition of his 40-year career in education.

    Lorain County JVS is proud to offer several scholarships to support adult learners pursuing career training. These scholarships are made possible through the generosity of families and community partners committed to workforce development in Northeast Ohio.

    Available Scholarships

    Hampson Family Foundation Scholarship
    Established in 2008 by the Hampson Family Foundation.
    Three scholarships will be awarded to Adult Career Center students in need of financial assistance.

    Robert D. Beecheler Memorial Scholarship
    🗓 Application Deadline: August 23
    Established in 2004 by William Beecheler and other family and friends in memory of Robert D. Beecheler.
    Awarded to an Adult Career Center student demonstrating need and commitment to career advancement.

    John L. Kopronica Memorial Scholarship
    Established in 2006 in memory of John L. Kopronica by his wife, Robin, and family.
    John was a welder at Lorain Products and a talented musician known throughout Northeast Ohio.
    Awarded to an Adult Career Center student enrolled in a welding program.

    Through College Credit Plus (CCP), eligible Lorain County JVS students can take college-level courses and earn dual high school and college credit at no cost.

    We work with local college partners to align coursework with your career tech pathway and future goals.

Leadership and Career Development through CTSOs

Where Skills Meet Leadership.

Career Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs) play a key role in our students’ development. These nationally recognized organizations build leadership, professionalism, citizenship, and technical skills—empowering students to grow personally and excel professionally. Members may also compete in regional, state, and national events, showcasing the industry-ready skills they’ve gained in their programs.

Lorain County JVS CTSOs include:

  • DECA – Preparing Emerging Leaders in Marketing, Finance, Hospitality & Management

  • Educators Rising (ER) – Future Teachers and Education Leaders

  • FCCLA – Family, Career and Community Leaders of America

  • FFA – An Association of Agricultural Students

  • HOSA – Future Health Professionals

  • SkillsUSA – Students, Teachers, and Industry Working Together

Participation in CTSOs is a privilege, and eligibility is determined by academic and behavioral standards. Students must meet the following before participating in competitions and events:

  • Maintain a C or above in all classes

  • Have fewer than 30 unexcused absence hours

  • No repeated detentions, ISAs, or more than 5 days of OSS
