Start Your Journey Toward a Career in Health Care

Explore the world of healthcare through hands-on learning, leadership training, and real-world observation experiences. This program is designed to give you broad exposure to medical professions while helping you build a strong foundation in professional healthcare practices.

You’ll develop essential skills in patient care, communication, and teamwork—plus, you’ll have the opportunity to earn industry-recognized credentials, such as State-Tested Nurse Aide (STNA) and CPR certification. College credits are also available upon successful completion.

  • College Credits
    Agreements with many colleges/universities help students, who meet established criteria, earn college credit for courses taken at the Lorain County JVS.  These credits can be transferred to the respective institution.  Potential college credits for Allied Health Sciences student are listed below.  Credits listed are semester hours.

    Body Structure & Function (BIOG115): 3 Credits
    Medical Terminology (ALHN110): 3 Credits
    Nurse Aide Training (ALHN114): 5 Credits
    (Optional summer training program for those that qualify)

    Math, English, Social Studies, and other courses that offer dual high school and college credits are also offered on the JVS campus through partnerships with Lorain County Community College and Oberlin College. Upon meeting specific criteria, students have the opportunity to earn various types of college credit for career technical courses taken at Lorain County JVS. Students also have the opportunity to participate in Ohio’s College Credit Plus program. College credit opportunities vary by program and are subject to change.

Public Safety

Step into a dynamic, hands-on program designed for students who want to make a difference through careers in emergency response, fire protection, and public safety. Through real-world scenarios, physical training, and professional certifications, you’ll gain the skills and confidence to respond to critical situations and protect your community.

Upon completion, students are eligible to take the Ohio Firefighter II Certification Exam and the National Registry Exam for EMT/B Certification, as well as earn several other industry-recognized credentials.
