Learning Through Service

From construction to commemoration, LCJVS students continue to preserve the legacy of the Patriot Day Memorial.

Building the Memorial

The LCJVS Patriot Day Memorial was more than a construction project—it was a community effort that allowed students to leave a lasting mark on campus while honoring those affected by September 11.

Working alongside instructors, local businesses, and skilled craftspeople, students from multiple career technical programs helped design, build, and prepare the memorial for its dedication. Their work transformed a vision into a permanent place of remembrance that continues to serve the community today.

A Tradition Carried Forward

Lorain County JVS students continue to play an important role in preserving the Patriot Day Memorial and its purpose.

Each year, students help prepare the memorial for the annual Patriot Day ceremony and carry on traditions that connect today's students with the legacy of those who came before them.

Landscape & Greenhouse Management students plant the memorial's yellow mums each year, maintaining one of its most recognizable symbols of remembrance.

Public Safety students lead and participate in the annual Patriot Day ceremony through the Presentation of Colors and other ceremonial responsibilities, helping honor the lives lost and the heroes who served.

Together, these traditions ensure that the LCJVS Patriot Day Memorial remains more than a monument—it remains a living part of our school community.
