Here are few daily announcements to share:

Columbia Students: On October 8th you need to provide your own transportation home from Columbia High School.
Elyria Students: Elyria students have an early release on October 8th at 1:10pm. There will be busses at the end of the day.
Oberlin Students: Oberlin will be here in the Main Lobby tomorrow during lunch periods to sell Homecoming tickets.
Army National Guard: Army National Guard will be here tomorrow in the Main Lobby for lunchtime presentations.
College Now Greater Cleveland: College Now will be here at the JVS in Student Services. If you are interested, please stop in and see Mrs. West to make an appointment.
Connections Students: Friendly reminder to the 9th and 110th grade students to turn in your job shadow slips before October 6th. Forms can turned in to lab instuctors, Mrs. Balog or Student Services. If you have misplaced the form, you can find it in Canvas.

AMHERST:
- Fall Sports Senior Nights: Fall Senior Nights are here! Join us as we recognize and celebrate the dedication, accomplishments and Comet Pride of our senior student athletes, cheerleaders and band members. Come fill the stands, cheer them on and help make these special evenings memorable. Girls Soccer is Oct. 7th, Boys Soccer is October 12th, Cross Country is October 13th, Volleyball is October 15th, Football, Cheer, Band & Golf is October 16th. Mark your calendars and come out to support our seniors as they represent Marion L. Steele High School one more time! Go Comets!
- Academic Challenge Club: Do you enjoy trivia, friendly competition, and showing off what you know? We would love to have you join this year’s Academic Challenge Team! Academic Challenge is a fast-paced team competition where students work together to answer questions on a wide range of subjects, from history and science to literature, current events, and more. It’s a fun way to challenge yourself, learn new things, have fun with your friends, and compete as a team! We’ll have two short seasons this year. Short after-school practices during the fall will be scheduled so they don’t interfere with fall sports. We’ll also develop a winter practice schedule that works for everyone. There will be one Saturday match in November, followed by a short winter/spring season from January through March. If you are unable to participate in both seasons, that is fine. Sign up for our Google Classroom using this Class Code: fzcwlt6. You can also stop by room 420 and speak with Mrs. Opel.
- Anime Club: New this year… Anime Club! Students can explore anime through drawing, character design, illustration, and creative projects. Come share your creativity, learn new artistic skills, and connect with other students who love anime and art. No experience is necessary; everyone is welcome! See Mr. DiFranco in Room 4 for more information.
- Art Club: Love to create? Art Club is a place to explore your creativity, try new art techniques, and work on fun projects with other students. Whether you’re an experienced artist or just enjoy being creative, everyone is welcome! Come create, connect, and have fun while expressing yourself through art. See Mr. DiFranco in Room 4 for more information.
- Ecoleague: Ecoleague’s mission is to increase student awareness of environmental issues and give them the ability to make a difference; educate others about their responsibilities for improving their recycling habits; provide opportunities for students to become directly involved in a variety of environmental projects; and promote environmental awareness. See Mrs. DeLeon in room 510 for more information. Meetings are every Thursday at 7am in the CLC Mediascape Lounge:
- Gamers Club: This casual Gamer club welcomes any console, board, card game, etc. rated Teen or below. Play, watch, and/or talk about games with other members! Gamers Club will begin at the end of September and meet from 2:40-3:30 weekly. See Mr. Rubinski in room 511 for more information.
- Indoor Track and Field: Ready to run, jump, throw, or vault? Join Steele Indoor Track & Field! Build speed, strength, and confidence while competing with your teammates this winter. Everyone is welcome!
Indoor track and field practices daily starting at the end of November and going through February. See Coach Glatz in room 501 for more details.
AVON:
- Join Unified Sports: All juniors and seniors interested in joining Unified Sports, please fill out the form in your “Class of” google classroom.
- National Testing Day: On Wednesday, October 7th, AHS will participate in National Test Administration Day. Freshman and Sophmores will be taking the practice ACT and Juniors will be taking the PSAT. Seniors will not report to AHS for classes; instead, they are given an off-campus day for college/career visits. Students need to arrive on campus no later than 7:40am. Early Bird classes are not in session on test day. For those students who need to arrive early, the AHS commons will continue to open as early as 6:30am. Look for an email coming from Mr. Castrilla with your room assignment. Students will not be permitted to remain in the building following testing. Breakfast will be available, but lunch will not be served.
- Support AHS and AMS as Field of Hope Schools: Purchase an original piece of art made by AMS and ASH students at the home varsity game on October 9th – Gold Rush. The price point is $8 - $20 and all proceeds will go directly to Prayers from Maria! Avon High School and Middle School have been designated as Field of Hope Schools for the 2026-27 school year. The game is a gold rush. Materials were purchased through a donation from Avon’s VFW 7035 – we appreciate their collaboration with our Eagles. Thank you for your support!
- It’s SOUPer Bowl Time: Preparations for the 2026 SOUPer Bowl have begun! Help Avon “Beat Lake” by making a monetary donation or bringing non-perishable goods to one of the multiple drop-off locations. The winner will be announced at the Avon vs Lake game on October 16th at the Lake. To donate, you can use the QR code or go to the link on our Website. All funding and no-perishable goods go to Community Resource Services (CRS), an organization that supports families in Avon and Avon Lake.
- Fall Concerts: October 20th is the AHS Band Concert, October 21st is the AHS Orchestra Concert, October 22nd, is the AHS Choir Concert, October 27th is the Monster Mash (Jazz Band), November 4th Fusion.
- Midday Assembly Schedule Oct. 13th: Growth Mindset and Resiliency: Catch your Breath Presentations. We truly enjoyed hosting Duncan Kirkwood on September 2 and look forward to incorporating his ideas into our year-long campaign to improve our Growth Mindset and Resiliency. Starting Oct. 13, the entire student body along with our staff will be taking a journey as we self-assess our personal goals, determine our capacity and needs, and pot our paths to success. Students will remain in third period classes on the assembly schedule for a dynamic lesson inspired by the book, A Growth Mindset for Teens by Sydney Shepard.
- Attention Seniors: Make sure you take the time to schedule your individual senior meeting with your counselor. Please login to your class of 2027 Google Classroom and sign up for a meeting. Keep checking your Google Classroom and the Counselor’s Weekly Newsletter to stay up-to-date on all senior information.
AVON LAKE:
- Band Notes: On October 10 at 5pm in Memorial Stadium, The Marching Shoremen will be hosting our 61st Band A Rama! Admission and show details can be found on the link on our website. If there are any questions, please check out the website or email Mr. Brunger.
- Attention Seniors looking for Volunteer Hours: Troy Intermediate is looking for seniors with 7th/8th period pass to volunteer to help tutor students in reading Monday-Thursday from 1:30-2:30 pm. Volunteers will work alongside one of our teachers to provide extra reading support and encouragement to students. If you are interested, please reach out to the principal at Troy – Mrs. Lengel @ 440-933-2701.
- Student Spotlights: Would you like to see your students’ achievements highlighted in the newsletter? If your student participates in an out-of-school activity and you would like their achievement highlighted in our newsletter, please email Amy Gannon at amy.gonnon@alcsoh.org. Be sure to include the name of the sport, organization, or activity, along with details of the accomplishment or award.
- Testing: Grades 9-11 will have their PSAT, although seniors will not have to go.
CLEARVIEW:
- Words of Wisdom: Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.
- Wrestling Open Mats: If you are interested in Wrestling and not participating in a fall sport, there will be Open Mat starting Wednesday, October 7th from 3-4pm. See Coach Steadman for more information.
- Volleyball: Do you want to see Mr. Morehouse get pied in the face? Come out to support your volleyball team tonight vs. Oberlin. JV at 5:30 followed by Varsity at 6:30!
- Soccer: Last night was the beginning of a long stretch of home games to finish the regular season. Trinity started quickly, going ahead 2-0 before Mikey Miller scored on a penalty kick giving Trinity a 2-1 halftime lead. Bryan Bucci shut out Trinity in the second half and ended with 10 saves on the night. Mikey tied it up before Asden Luciano put in the games winner about a minute later. Another late goal from Mikey gave him 3 on the night in a 4-2 win. Both Noah Huston and Noah Faurot added assists on the evening. We have 2 more home games this week... Wednesday vs. Columbia and Thursday vs. Cleveland Central Catholic. Both games are at 6pm at Tom Hoch Field.
COLUMBIA:
- Copopa Family Math and Literacy Night Volunteers: This event will be at Red Wagon Farms on Tuesday, Oct. 20th and a fun opportunity for students to earn community service hours.
- Softball: Attention Girls interested in playing Softball in the Spring. Open cages are every Sunday from 11:30-12:30 at the High School. This will continue for approximately 6 weeks (weather permitting).
- College and Career Fair: The College and Career Fair is Wednesday, October 7th. It is also College Spirit Day, wear your favorite college shirt.
- JVS Students: JVS Students must provide their own transportation home in the afternoon on Thursday, October 8th and Friday, October 9th.
ELYRIA
- Voter Registration Drive: If you are 18 or WILL BE 18 BY November 3, 2026. You can register to vote in Room 126 (Mrs. Runion) or online. You have until October 5th to register to vote for the elections in November.
- Homecoming: Homecoming is THIS SATURDAY from 6am-9am in the EHS Dining Hall. Homecoming ticket sales are ending this Wednesday, 10/7! Ticket prices are one for $15 or two for $25. You can purchase them with cash during your lunch periods or before/after school in the main office. If you are paying with a card, you can scan the QR code in the cafeteria or access the tickets through the athletics website. Out of district guests must have a guest form approved before their ticket can be purchased. Guest forms can be found in your team office. Out of district guests will not be permitted in without a valid ID. Tickets will not be sold after October 7th.
- Prom Committee: Seniors, it’s time to make prom unforgettable! Want a say in the theme, decorations, music, and all the details that make prom one of the biggest nights of the year? Sign up for Prom Committee and help us create a night your class will never forget. See any senior class officer or there is a sign-up sheet outside of room 217.
- Free Driving School: Driving to Succeed program awards scholarships for driving schools to Lorain County residents that are between 151/2 and 20 years old, have temporary permits, and are a SNAP recipient – within last 12 months or Proof of County Custody. Go to your Google Classroom for application information or see Ms. Belcher in room 106.
- EHS Bowling: EHS Bowling Team is having its interest meeting October 7th, after school at 3pm, in room 134. Do you know how to Bowl or want to be a part of an exciting sport? Come to the meeting to sign up and hear what it is all about.
- FAFSA Night: Attention seniors! The FAFSA is open! College Now will be hosting a FAFSA Night on October 12th from 6pm -7:30pm in the PAC Lobby. Register for the event in your Google Classroom or scan the QR code.
- EHS Science Club Chipotle Night: Need dinner plans for Wednesday, October 7th? Or just want some chips and guac? Come to the West River Chipotle to support the Science Club. Thank you for your support.
- Link Crew Open Gym: Hey Class of 2030 and Transfer Students. Join us at the next Link Crew event! On Tuesday, October 13th we will be hosting an Open Gym after school until 4pm in the small gym and dining hall. Come play games, eat food, and do crafts. Can’t wait to see you there!
FIRELANDS:
- Fall Senior Night: This year’s Senior Night will be held on Friday, Oct. 16th to celebrate our graduating seniors in Athletics, Athletic Training & Marching Band. Please log into your Google Classroom ASAP to fill out the required information. Every senior involved in these sports and activities must complete this form, even if you did not plan to participate in the ceremony itself. Thank you for your prompt cooperation, and congratulations on your upcoming senior night!
- Down Syndrome Awareness Month: Good Morning FHS! October is National Down Syndrome Awareness Month. Down Syndrome affects 1 in 700 people, that is over 6 million people worldwide! During October, we will be sharing fun facts about Down Syndrome each day on the morning announcements. Did you know that the word “Trisomy” means having an extra chromosome instead of 2. Under a microscope they look like tiny socks! That’s why people wear mismatched socks this month – to celebrate our unique differences and make the world a more vibrant place.
- Junior Class Committee Meeting: The first Junior Class Committee Meeting will take place tomorrow, immediately after school in the Falcon Fuel room A114. We are excited to welcome all members, plan our very first fundraiser, and begin brainstorming initial ideas for our Prom themes. Please make plans to attend and help shape our upcoming Junior class events.
- Parade of Bands: Get ready for an incredible evening of music and school spirit at the 19th Aunnual Firelands Parade of Bands on Saturday, Oct. 10th. Come out to the stadium to support our own Mighty Falcon Marching Band alongside seven other amazing area bands. Gates open at 6:30pm, and the show kicks off at 7pm. Bring your friends and family for a night of great music, concessions and food trucks; wear your school colors and help us fill the stands!
- Falcon PRIDE Raffle: We will have this week’s Falcon PRIDE Raffle on Thursday. This year we will be having PRIDE Cart Raffles weekly. Don’t forget to enter the raffle by going to the PBIS Rewards app using Clever and use your points to enter. Just click on the raffle tab on the app and enter to win. You will have until 12:40 on Friday to enter to win! There will be one winner drawn from each grade level! If you have any questions, please email Mr. Taylor!
- PowderPuff Football: FHS Student Council is hosting its annual Powderpuff Flag Football Game on Oct. 29th. Sign-ups are OPEN NOW on Google Classroom, but space is limited, so don’t wait to secure your spot. It is $10 to participate, including your game shirt. Head to Google Classroom to sign up and join this epic game!
KEYSTONE
- Digital Media Club: Want to create videos, make social media content, and show everyone what makes Keystone awesome? Join the digital Media Club and help put the spotlight on our students, teachers, teams, clubs, and events! Whether you want to be behind the camera, in front of it, editing videos, interviewing others, or coming up with creative ideas, there’s a place for you. Check it out at our brief informational meeting after school on Wednesday, October 7, in Ms. Perhot’s room.
- Yearbook: The yearbook staff is collecting photos from homecoming week to appear in this year’s publication. Scan the QR code on the purple fliers hanging around the building to share your pictures from spirit days, the Powder Puff game, Friday’s Pep Rally, and the dance. The more the better!
- The Great Apple Crunch: The Great Apple Crunch is today, October 6th in the cafeteria! Join us in celebrating Apple Crunch Day and supporting our local farmers. Fresh delicious apples will be offered at lunch with your choice of peanut butter or caramel dip. Let’s crunch together and celebrate the goodness of locally grown apples.
- Attention Upperclassmen: We have spots open to go on the field trip to the Lorain County Career Expo! Stop down to counseling to grab a permission slip.
- Environmental Club: The Keystone Environmental Club is collecting bottles through the end of this week. There will be collection boxes for empty plastic bottles in the lunchroom. One will be by the stage, and the other will be in the back of the room. Please make sure to empty your bottles before dropping them in the boxes. Environmental Club will be having its next meeting on October 12, next Monday. The meeting will last until 4pm.
- Air and Space Club: The Air and Space Club will be meeting on Wednesday, October 7th in Mr. Habenicht’s room right after school at 2:30pm. There are a few field trips coming up in the next month, so be sure to be there to hear all about them. Also, there will be cookies and treats to enjoy.
- FCCLA: There is an FCCLA meeting today after school in Ms. Heff’s room.
- BBQ Club: BBQ Club meeting will be Thursday after school in Ms. Heff’s room.
OBERLIN
- Homecoming: Oberlin High School Homecoming is October 10th from 7pm – 10pm. (The earliest you will be allowed to leave will be 9pm with parent permission). The theme is Once Upon A Time. The Price is $15 single and $25 per couple. Dr. Tomlin OHS principal will be at the JVS on October 7th to sell tickets. Homecoming Out of School guest forms are due to OHS by Wednesday, September 30th 2026.
- Homecoming Schedule: Oct.9th at 4:30 is the OHS Parade, at 5pm is the Girls Soccer Game (Homecoming court crowning during halftime), 7pm OHS Band Performance (Light Show), 8pm is the Bonfire.
