Wellness Wednesday Quote: You can’t stop people from saying bad things about you. All you can do is make them liars.

 

Friday Dress: Friday students may wear clothing that represents their future career plans! This includes military-related apparel for studentss planning to enlist, as well as workwear such as a job uniform shirt, company swag, or other career-related attire. 

 

Fall Sports Photo:  On Friday, September 18th, we will take our fall sports photo. Any student who is in a fall sport including band and cheerleading is encouraged to wear their sport uniform top for the photo. The photo will take place at the start of second period. We will make an announcement to call the students down to the office for the photo. 

 

Back to School Forms: Students that have not turned in their medical forms, should report to Quarry A for morning labs.

 

Honor the Trades Shout Outs:  These four students: Cameron Jones, Angie Lenczewski, Nolan Sphinx, and Colten Cusano demonstrated what it truly means to Honor the Trades by being kind at lunch. When they witnessed a fellow student being bullied, they chose not to stand by. Instead, they reached out, offered friendnship, and intentionally included him in their daily activities. They took a student under their wing, not because they were asked to, but because they recognized some who needed a friend and they chose to be one. Their actions demonstrate leadership, compassion, teamwork, respect, and character. They showed that honoring the trades is about more than learning a skill or completing a job—it is about how we treat the people around us. These students are recognized for putting respect into action and showing what it means to be a true teammate and friend.

AMHERST:

• SPORTS: The Fall Athletic season is underway! Get out and support your peers at our athletic and extracurricular events.  Your energy and support of your peers this year at home games has been awesome! Keep it up! Let’s get out to as many events as possible.  For a full schedule of our events, please visit our athletic page.
• Second Harvest: Amherst families who need assistance with groceries are invited to our next Second Harvest food distribution. Thursday, September 24^th from noon to 1pm at Marion L. Steele High School. Please RSVP by September 18^th. If you cannot attend on this date, please contact Amherst Schools Social Worker Jill Maiorca at 440-988-1645 or jill_maiorca@amherstk12.org. • Anime Club: Do you enjoy trivia, friendly competition, and showing off what you know? We would love to have you join this year’s Academic Challenge Team!  Academic Challenge is a fast-paced team competition where students work together to answer questions on a wide range of subjects, from history and science to literature, current events, and more. It’s a fun way to challenge yourself, learn new things, have fun with your friends, and compete as a team!  We’ll have two short seasons this year. Short after-school practices during the fall will be scheduled so they don’t interfere with fall sports. We’ll also develop a winter practice schedule that works for everyone. There will be one Saturday match in November, followed by a short winter/spring season from January through March. If you are unable to participate in both seasons, that is fine.  Sign up for our Google Classroom using this Class Code: fzcwlt6. You can also stop by room 420 and speak with Mrs. Opel.
• Anime Club: New this year… Anime Club! Students can explore anime through drawing, character design, illustration, and creative projects. Come share your creativity, learn new artistic skills, and connect with other students who love anime and art. No experience necessary; everyone is welcome! See Mr. DiFranco in Room 4 for more information. The Anime Club will start in September and meets twice a month after school.
• Art Club: Love to create? Art Club is a place to explore your creativity, try new art techniques, and work on fun projects with other students. Whether you’re an experienced artist or just enjoy being creative, everyone is welcome! Come create, connect, and have fun while expressing yourself through art. See Mr. DiFranco in Room 4 for more information. The Art Club will meet in September and meets twice a month after school.
• Ecoleague: Ecoleague’s mission is to increase student awareness of environmental issues and give them the ability to make a difference; educate others about their responsibilities for improving their recycling habits; provide opportunities for students to become directly involved in a variety of environmental projects; and promote environmental awareness. See Mrs. DeLeon in room 510 for more information. Meeting are every Thursday at 7am in the CLC Mediascape Lounge:
• ESPORTS: Steele Esports competes through Esports Ohio, which is partnered with the OHSAA and has over 250 member high schools. Games offered this year, depending on the level of interest, include Smash Bros, Marvel Rivals, Fortnite, Overwatch, Rocket League, and Volorant. Tryouts will begin September 14^th. Practices will be weekly from 2:40-3:30 with a weekly game from 2:40-6pm. See Mr. Rubinski in room 511 with any questions.
• Gamers Club: This casual Gamer club welcomes any console, board, card game, etc. rated Teen or below. Play, watch, and/or talk about games with other members! Gamers Club will begin at the end of September and meet from 2:40-3:30 weekly. See Mr. Rubinski in room 511 for more information.
• Indoor Track and Field: Ready to run, jump, throw, or vault? Join Steele Indoor Track & Field! Build speed, strength, and confidence while competing with your teammates this winter. Everyone is welcome!

Indoor track and field practices daily starting at the end of November and going through February.  See Coach Glatz in room 501 for more details.

• Student Nutrition Advisory Council: Students contribute ideas for items to purchase in the cafeteria; taste testings; field trips to Columbus to advocate for meals at the State level; field trip to Gordon Food Service Show to meet manufacturers and create new menu ideas. The first meeting is September 23 at 6:45 am in the CLC.  SNAC will then meet monthly during the school year.  For more information email Mrs. Kelbley at deanne_kelbley@amherstk12.org or speak to any student board members listed below.  President - Bridget Sonntag, VP - Gemma DelMonico, Secretary - Emma Timko, PR Chair - Emma Kucbel

 

AVON:

• Marching Band Practice Field: Students, please remember that our student parking lot also serves as the Marching Band practice field. On rehearsal days, we need the lot cleared so we can safely set up and begin rehearsal on time.  Wednesdays, cars need to be moved immediately after school.
• Join Unified Sports: All juniors and seniors interested in joining Unified Sports, please fill out the form in your “Class of” google classroom.
• Avon High School Homecoming Week: Avon High School Homecoming week is Sept. 21^st-26^th. The theme this year is “A Night in Rio.” If you are interested in applying for Homecoming court, check your graduating class Google Classroom for the application. Representatives are needed from each graduating class. If you are planning on bringing a date from another school, please pick up a visiting date form in the main office. Forms should be returned to the main office by the end of the day Tuesday, September 22^nd.
• Seniors: Seniors, make sure that you are checking your AHS Gmail daily! There are numerous reasons our offices need to communicate with you and your families, and those communications can come daily, weekly and monthly. We want you to be as informed as possible and your Gmail will be key to doing so!
• Attention Seniors: It is time to start planning for life after graduation. We know that our students take many different paths after high school, and so we’d like to invite you to sign up for a meeting that best fits your after AHS Plans. The group presentations are REQUIRED and will take place during 1^st, 4^th, 6^th, and 7^th periods. Students are expected to attend a meeting during their release. If you do not have a release, you can attend a meeting that best fits your schedule. Please keep in mind that you are responsible for any missed work. Please log in to your Class of 2027 google classroom and sign up for a meeting. Again, these meetings are required.

 

AVON LAKE:

 

• Band Notes: The Avon Lake Marching Shoremen will be hosting their community preview night on August 11 at 7pm at AL Memorial Stadium. Admission is free so come check out what we have been working on during our summer rehearsals! On October 10 at 5pm in Memorial Stadium, The Marching Shoremen will be hosting our 61st Band A Rama! Admission and show details can be found on the link on our website.  If there are any questions, please check out the website or email Mr. Brunger.
• Attention Seniors looking for Volunteer Hours: Troy Intermediate is looking for seniors with 7^th/8^th period pass to volunteer to help tutor students in reading Monday-Thursday from 1:30-2:30 pm. Volunteers will work alongside one of our teachers to provide extra reading support and encouragement to students. If you are interested, please reach out to the principal at Troy – Mrs. Lengel @ 440-933-2701.
• Student Spotlights: Would you like to see your students’ achievements highlighted in the newsletter? If your student participates in an out-of-school activity and you would like their achievement highlighted in our newsletter, please email Amy Gannon at amy.gonnon@alcsoh.org. Be sure to include the name of the sport, organization, or activity, along with details of the accomplishment or award.

 

 

 

CLEARVIEW: 

• Words of Wisdom: Smart people believe only half of what they hear. Smarter people know which half to believe.
• Homecoming Dance: The Homecoming Dance will be held on Saturday, Sept. 19^th from 6pm-9pm in the Clearview High School Gym. This year’s them is Spooky Night. Tickets will be $10 each (cash only) and ONLY sold at the door. If you’d like to bring a guest who DOES NOT attend Clearview, please stop in the Main Office and pick up a guest form. Guests must be at least in 9^th grade and cannot be older than 18 years old. Guest forms are due back to the Main Office no later than Wednesday, September 16^th.
• Homecoming King & Queen: Attention Students… It is time to vote for your 26/27 Homecoming King and Queen! Please check your email to check for the google form to vote. They will be sent out by your grade level advisors and voting will end on Wednesday. Good Luck to the Candidates. 
• Clipper Cup Games: The games are back, baby! Classes will be competing against each other at Friday’s pep rally for points toward the Clipper Cup. These are the games we will be playing: “Swat Team”, “Bring me a…” “Mega-Cup Relay”, and “Tower Defense”. Teams without a full roster by Thursday will be disqualified. See Mr. Ward to sign up.
• Homecoming Pep Rally/Clipper Cup Games: We will be on an Assembly bell schedule on Friday, September 18^th for the pep rally/clipper games.
• Track and Field Meeting: If you are interested in joining the track and field team, there will be a brief meeting on Wednesday, September 23^rd.

 

COLUMBIA:  

• Columbia Athletic Boosters: Columbia Athletic Boosters 2026 Fall Concession Stand Volunteer Sign Up is on our website. 
• Attention JVS Students: Mr. Siftar will be at LCJVS on Friday, September 18^th to sell homecoming tickets and meet with you at 8am.
• Copopa Family Math and Literacy Night Volunteers: This event will be at Red Wagon Farms on Tuesday, Oct. 20^th and a fun opportunity for students to earn community service hours.
• Homecoming: The Homecoming King and Queen Crowning will be on Friday, September 25^th at 6:25pm. The Varsity will play Brookside at 7pm and the dance will be on Saturday, the 26^th from 7:30-10pm. Homecoming Application is required for ALL students and must be approved prior to purchasing a ticket.  Requirements are that all fees are paid, 90% attendance rate, passing all classes in good standing. Out of district guests must have a second side of application completed and approved prior to purchasing a ticket. JVS students…Please note that Mr. Siftar will be at LCJVS on Friday, September 18^th to sell tickets and meet with you at 8am.
• Girls Softball: Attention Girls interested in playing softball in the spring. Open Cages start this Sunday, September 13^th from 11:30-12:30 at the High School. This will continue for approximately 6 weeks (weather permitting).

ELYRIA

• September Math Study Tables: Starting in September, Math Study Table will begin.  If you need help in math, FREE tutoring is available Monday through Thursday from 2:45 - 3:15. Use the calendar to find out which teacher and room to go to.  Calendars can be picked up from your math teacher or any office.
• Immunizations: Reminder to ALL students. September 18^th is exclusion day for any student that is missing required immunizations. Seniors check to see if you had your Meningococcal booster. This is a state law. Students not having required immunizations will be sent home 9/18 unexcused.
• Voter Registration Drive: If you are 18 or WILL BE 18 BY November 3, 2026. You can register to vote in Room 126 (Mrs. Runion) or online. You have until October 5^th to register to vote for the elections in November.
• Eligible NHS Candidate Meeting: All students that received the eligible candidate letter for this year’s National Honor Society consideration should plan on meeting in the dining hall on 9/16 after school.  Please read through the letter to make sure that you have met all of the additional requirements. Bring a writing utensil with you.
• Plastic Grocery Bag Collection: Our school is joining the Plastic Bag Collection Contest sponsored by the Lorain County Solid Waste District! Starting September 1^st through December 28^th, we are collecting plastic bags to help the environment and to try to win prizes for our school. Bring your clean plastic shopping bags. Drop them off in any Science Classroom. Every bag adds up, let’s show what our school can do!  Last year we came in 3^rd place and won a park bench. Let’s see if we can win again.
• School Picture Day: Just a heads up…School Picture Day is next Thursday, September 17^th. ALL students including Seniors will be getting their picture taken during their English class. If you are not in an English class, you will receive a pass to get your picture taken.
• Community Foundation Lorain County Event: Community Foundation Lorain County presents “History in Black: A Lorain County Series”. Students interested can show their student ID for free admission.  See the flyer on our website.
• School Picture Day: Picture Day will be September 17^th.
• Free Driving School: Driving to Succeed program awards scholarships for driving school to Lorain County residents that are between 151/2 and 20 years old, have temporary permit, and are a SNAP recipient – within last 12 months or Proof of County Custody. Go to your Class of Google Classroom for application information or see Ms. Belcher in room 106.
• Stress and Anger Management Group: Would you like support around learning healthy ways to manage strong emotions? How about building better communication skills and helping others hear you? Could you benefit from increased confidence and problem-solving skills? Beech Brook is starting a small counseling group during extended homeroom focused on Anger & Stress Management and would love your participation!  If you would like more information or are interested in joining, complete the form in google classroom or see your School Counselor.
• Yearbook Ordering: Remember to order your yearbook online at by THIS Friday 9/18 to save $20. Payment plans are available, but you must place the order by THIS Friday for the sale price. Any questions, please see Mrs. Hammond in Room 243.
• Yearbook Staff Meeting: The first Yearbook staff meeting will be on Tuesday, September 22^nd right after school in Room 243. If you are interested in helping create the yearbook, please attend the meeting. Any questions, please see Mrs. Hammond.

FIRELANDS:

• Homecoming 2026: Homecoming 2026 is officially here, and it’s time to show out, Falcons! The weekend kicks off on Friday, September 25^th, as FHS takes on Clearview under the lights, so pack the stands and bring the energy. The excitement carries right into the next night for our “Around the World” Homecoming Dance on Saturday, September 26, from 7pm to 10pm at FHS. Tickets are $15 and will be available during lunch, so make sure you grab yours early. This year’s global theme sets up an epic class competition, with the Seniors representing Paris Night Juniors – Tokyo Lights, Sophomores, Italy, Freshmen – Brazil. If you are planning on bringing a guest from another school, remember that out-of-town guest forms are due by Monday, September 21^st – there are absolutely no exceptions for late forms, so get them turned in ASAP.
• Spirit Points: Let the games begin! Earn points for your grade by attending out upcoming home games and scanning the QR codes at the entrances. The first event is the Girls’ Soccer game against Columbia tomorrow at 7pm; be sure to scan the QR code at the ticket entrance and enter your name and grade. The second event is the Football game against Canton Central Catholic this Friday at 7pm, where you can check in using the QR code located at the pass gate.
• Attention Freshmen: Did you order a yearbook last year? Good news – they are finally here! You can pick up your copy today, by stopping by the Main Office during your lunch period. Don’t forget to grab yours.
• Europe in Spring 2027: Firelands is heading to Rome, Florence, Vatican City, Madrid, and Barcelona, and we have a few more spots available! This is an amazing opportunity to experience new cultures, build independence, and make memories that will last a lifetime.
• Juniors: Attention Juniors! If you want to have a say in your Junior year events,

we are looking for passionate Junior Class Officers and members for the

Prom Planning Committee. Joining the committee is your chance to help choose the prom theme, decorations, and activities—plus, you will earn a free prom ticket for your help! If you are interested in planning prom or running for a class officer position, please email your class advisors or stop by Falcon Fuel in Room 114 to get involved.

KEYSTONE

• National Honor Society: National Honor Society Applications are now available. Applications are due to Senorita Catanzarito by September 25^th at 2:30pm. See Seniorita with any questions.
• Seniors and Juniors: We are headed to Mount Union and Kent State for this fall’s College Visit. Spots are first come, first serve and are available in the counseling department entrance. We will be going Wednesday, September 30^th from 7:15 – 3:30.
• Seniors: Financial Aid Night is Thursday, September 17^th and less than one week away. Please plan on attending with your parents if you have questions about financial aid and college affordability. Please note – MANY scholarships now REQUIRE that your FAFSA be filled out to be considered. We will be in room 124 at 5:30 on the 17^th.
• Homecoming: Homecoming tickets are on sale during lunch periods in the cafeteria and after school in the office on September 23^rd, 29^th, and 30^th. $15 presale, $20 at the door. Out of school guest forms must be turned in before you can purchase a ticket. Forms can be found in the office.
• Spanish Club: Interested in joining Spanish Club? We will be having our first Spanish club meeting on Thursday, September 24^th after school in Senorita’s room. All are welcome and you do not have to be in Spanish to attend. Please see Seniorita or Kylie Fife for more information.
• Air & Space Club Meeting: Come out for our first Air & Space Club meeting on Wednesday, September 16^th! We’ll meet after school at 2:30 in the library. There will be both treats AND trivia at this one!
• BBQ Club: BBQ club will meet on Thursday, 8/17 after school in Ms. Heff’s room (room 123). Anyone that wants to be a member should plan to attend.
• Yearbooks: Extra Copies of the 25-26 yearbook are now on sale. Bring $88 cash or check made payable to Keystone High School to Mr. Hogue in room 108 for your copy. Extra copies are sold on a first-come-first-served basis, and once they are gone, they are gone forever!
• Environmental Club: Interested in making a difference in the environment at our school and in our community? Join us for the first Environmental Club meeting this Monday, September 14^th in room 228.
• Big Brothers/Big Sisters: Applications are available in the front office and are due Friday. Students interested in applying should turn in their completed packet to the front office and must have CCP or Senior Privilege for the meetings on Fridays.
