Here are few daily announcements to share:
Senior Recognition is Monday, May 18th at 10am at the LCCC Fieldhouse. Seniors do have class on Friday and if you are need of additional tickets, please check your email for additional tickets.
Please click on the Associate School links on our website (under High School) for updated or detailed information. Some schools forward daily announcements while others can be found directly on their website.
AMHERST:
- Scholarship Opportunities: The Amherst Schools Educational Foundation (ASEF) and the Amherst Local Community Scholarships are now open, offering 40+ scholarship opportunities for Steele Seniors planning their postsecondary path. The Amherst Police Departments Scholarship and Sayers Family Scholarship require separate applications. All other scholarships must be submitted through the designated Google Forms. Applications are detailed, so students should review requirements carefully and be prepared to upload all necessary documents at submission. Recipients will be recognized at the Honors & Awards Banquet on May 5. Thank you to our Amherst community for your continued support of our students.
- Last Day and Final Exams for Seniors: The last day of classes for the Class of 2026 is Tuesday, May 19, 2026. Final Exams will be on Monday, May 18th and Tuesday, May 19th.
- Dance Team Tryouts: Ready to join the energy spirit, and talent of the Amherst Steele Dance Team? Now is your chance! Tryouts will be May 11th from 3:30-5:30pm and May 12th from 4-4:30pm. Don’t miss your opportunity to be part of something amazing – bring your passion and your best moves!
- Mandatory Graduation Practice: There will be a MANDATORY graduation practice on Thursday, May 21st, beginning promptly at 7:25 am in the cafetorium. Graduation practice will conclude when the senior class has run through the entire commencement ceremony. All students are expected to be on time. If you miss practice, you will not be permitted to participate in the graduation ceremony.
- Class of 2026 Clap Out: Graduation practice will conclude with a procession of the Class of 2026 graduates from Steele to Walter G. Nord School. After the walk at Nord, students will receive a police escort to AJH and walk through both the Junior High and Powers Elementary School. Parents are invited to view the procession to and from Nord or between AJH and Powers.
- Senior Send Off: Amherst Schools along with the Amherst Police Department, will be holding a Senior Send Off on Thursday, May 21st at 6pm for the Class of 2026. There is a rain date of May 22nd. The Amherst Police Department will lead seniors in an extended route from Powers Elementary School to Marion L. Steele High School. Staff members from Powers, Nord, AJH, and Steele will be along the route to wish the seniors farewell and good luck.
- Employed, Enlisted, Enrolled: Mrs. Cooney, 12th Grade Counselor, is holding one-on-one meetings with each senior. The purpose of each senior meeting is to ensure students are on track to meet graduation requirements and plan for post secondary opportunities. Our goal is that our entire senior class has a plan to be employed, enlisted, or enrolled by the end of their senior year. Please review Steels’s Graduation Requirements below and contact Mrs. Cooney with questions.
AVON:
- 2026 Commencement Ceremony: Avon High School’s 2026 Commencement Ceremony is taking place on Tuesday, May 26th, 2026.
- Class of 2026 Stay Connected: Order your purple cap & gown now! You can find the link on our website. Graduation is NOW Tuesday, May 26th at 7pm. Mark your calendars for the following dates: Senior DC Trip is March 18th-21st, Prom is Saturday, May 9th, Senior awards are May 18th, Senior Exams are May 18th-20th, Graduation Practice is May 22nd and Graduation is May 26th.
- Class of 2026 Brick by Brick: When working with the class leadership and knowing that we do not paint parking spaces or do some of the other school’s traditions, we created a NEW, awesome rite of passage for our seniors. Not to reference Pink Floyd, but our Seniors are more than another brick in the wall of the AHS Nest! Design your brick and we will add it to the wall. Purchase your vinyl sticker and follow the Canva directions in your Class of 2026 Google Classroom. Proceeds (after costs) go to the Class of 2026. These vinyl stickers can be taken with you as a memento.
- Prom: Prom will take place on Saturday, May 9th at 6:30-10:30 at the Cleveland Museum of Art located 1150 East Blvd., Cleveland, OH. Tickets will go on sale from April 13th-May1st. Sales will be online only. Please note: Seniors who have not met their fee obligations will not be able to purchase a ticket to prom. Each AHS senior may bring one guest. All prom guests who do not attend Avon High School must get prior authorization before attending prom. Guests must have a photo ID upon arrival to prom as well. Attire to prom is formal. Formal is defined as a full suit or tuxedo with tie, a full-length gown, and/or dress pants and a blouse.
- A Cappella Auditions for 26-27: Attention students. Auditions for the Avon A Cappella ’26-’27 season are just around the corner. Plan a school appropriate song of your choice that really shows off your voice! Auditions are May 12th and 13th. Please sign up using the QR code on the flyers around the building. Any questions? - Summer Musical Auditions: Attention Students! Auditions for our first ever summer musical: Six Teen Education are coming up on May 18th at 3pm. Looking to get more information? Any questions? See Mr. Moyseenko in the choir room.
- Avon Eagle Run: The Bendix Eagle Run registration is now open! We invite the community to join us for the 24th annual Avon Eagle Run presented by Bendix, Saturday, May 23rd. At 8am at Avon High School. Proceeds from the Eagle Run benefit the Avon School Educational Empowerment Fund, the French Creek YMCA and other local charities. The family fun event includes a 5-mile run, 5K run/walk and 1-mile Kinds Fun Run. To register, go to the link on our website.
AVON LAKE
- Help Stock the ALHS Care Closet: The ALHS Care Closet is a community effort to care for our own. With your help, we provide students and families with essentials like coats, hygiene items, school supplies, AL gear, and snacks. We are currently running low on the below items. Individually wrapped snacks like granola bars, crackers, fruit snacks, or protein bars. New or gently used AL gear. Drop off donations at the Main Office to the attention of Kristin Action our Social Worker.
- Commencement Tickets: If you are in need of a handicap or wheelchair ticket, seniors should email Mrs. Gannon at amy.gannon@alcsoh.org to request a ticket. Please include the type of ticket needed (handicap or wheelchair) and the name of the person needing the ticket.
CLEARVIEW:
- Thought for the Month: “Life is like riding a bicycle…you don’t fall off unless you stop pedaling.”
- Senior Recognition Ceremony: Attention Seniors! The Recognition Assembly Practice – Wednesday, May 13th @ 9am – Auditorium (Optional for Senior JVS students) If you are a JVS student wanting to participate in the Recognition Assembly, you MUST be at Recognition Practice that morning. The steak fry will be held after this practice. Recognition Assembly – Wednesday, May 13th @ 7pm (Seniors arrive by 6:30 pm) Auditorium. You must be there if you plan on walking (unless you are a JVS student) You MUST wear your cap and gown to the Recognition Assembly. Please reach out to your school counselors with any questions.
- Senior Walk at Vincent: Attention Seniors! The Senior Walk at Vincent is Tuesday, May 12th at 2pm! The Vincent Elementary students and your former teachers really look forward to seeing you all! It is also a special moment with your graduating class! Please wear your cap and gown. If you have any questions, please reach out to Mrs. Karr!
- Senior Exams: Senior Exams will be held TODAY and Make Ups will be TOMORROW. Seniors ONLY need to report to school for their scheduled exam.
- Parchment: Attention Seniors! You MUST request that your transcript be sent to your college through Parchment. This is the only way your transcript will be sent. Do not delay – this is a required step for your college enrollment. If you need help, contact Mrs. Jackson immediately.
- Girls Basketball Open Gym: Girls’ basketball will be having open gyms every Tuesday and Thursday from 3-4:30 pm until the end of May. If you have any questions, contact Coach Fisher.
- Volleyball Open Gym: Volleyball will be holding open gyms on Thursday’s from 5pm – 6:30pm at the High School. If you have any questions, reach out to Coach Baxter or see Mr. Morehouse.
- Free Sports Physicals: Do you need a sports physical for the 26-27 school year? The Center for Orthopedics is offering free sports physicals on Friday, June 5th from 1-5pm. See the athletic website or Mr. Morehouse for more details. Spots are limited, so secure your spot now.
- Clipper Cup Finals: The Clipper Cup is officially over, and the final scores are as follows. Freshman are in last place with 55 points, followed by the Sophomores with 75 points, then the Juniors with 103 points, and the Seniors winning with 107 points. The Seniors will have a field day on Wednesday with an inflatable obstacle course as their prize! Congratulations!
- District Art Show: The district are show is Monday from 4-6 in the CHS auditorium. Come and see art from grades k-12 and other fun we have in store.
COLUMBIA:
- Color Guard Clinics and Auditions: Clinics will be held Monday and Tuesday, May 11-12 from 4pm-6pm. Auditions will be May 13th from 5:30-7:30. You must attend both clinics to audition. For more information, please contact Ty Coleman at tcoleman@clsdraiders.org.
- Certified Lifeguards Needed: Strongsville Rec needs certified lifeguards. Their starting pay rate is $14/hr with opportunities to earn up to $16/hr. Check out their website to apply under the human resource tab.
- Paid Internship: Lorain County Metro Parks is offering a PAID internship for high school students.
- Color Guard Clinics and Auditions: Clinics will be Monday, May 11th and Tuesday, May 12th 4pm-6pm. Auditions will be Wednesday, May 13th from 5:30pm – 7:30pm. You must attend both days of clinics to audition! For more information, please contact Ty Coleman at tcoleman@clsdraiders.org.
ELYRIA
- Camp Invention: Looking for something to do when school ends? Are you looking for volunteer hours? Do you like helping kids explore, learn and create? Join our team as we help “SPARK” elementary students’ creativity and invent! Fill out the interest form by scanning below to learn more! Please see Mrs. Smith in room 228 or Mr. West in the HUB for more information!
- Chess Club: We will have our last meeting of this school year next Thursday, May 14th in room 306W. We will see you then.
- Senior Clap Out: Attention Seniors: The sign up for the Senior Clap out is available on the Class of 2026 Google Classroom until Friday, May 15th at 3pm.
- Golf Conditioning: Hello Golfers! Anyone interested in coming to any of the conditioning sessions this spring should see Coach Rainey for details. Weather permitting,
- we will be at the fields of Westwood Elementary on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30-6:30pm if there is bad weather, we will be meeting in room 134 for Golf course lesson and putting practice. Students must have an up to date physical on file with the Athletic Office.
- Freshman Class Movie: Hey Class of 2029, you are invited to watch High School Musical in room 116 after school from 2:40 to 4:30 on Tuesday. May 12th. Even if you don’t have popcorn to pick up from the fundraiser, you can still come and have a snack while watching the movie. Just think, it will be your last event together as freshmen! We are limited to 25 seats, so first come, first served.
- Anime Club: Join us on May 13th for our tie-dye day! Club members will help tie-dye a club banner and will be given a small piece to tie dye. We will then sign our club banner at our last meeting on May 20th. Thank you for an amazing year!
FIRELANDS:
- Student Council Movie Night: May 15th the FHS Student Council will be hosting our 4th annual movie night on the football field. Gates open at 7pm with the movie starting at dusk. Before the movie students can bring spike ball or other yard games to play. Each student will get a pop, water, pizza, and candy, paid for by Student Council. No outside food or beverages, no guests from other schools. Please RSVP and vote for the movie you want on Google Classroom.
- Senior Choir Farewell: The Firelands High School Senior Farewell Concert will be on May 11th at 7pm. This concert is created by the Seniors with their chosen theme for the night and their favorite songs! Come out and support our choir seniors!
- Attention Seniors: Senior Fees MUST be paid by this Friday, May 15th. At this time only cash or money orders will be accepted. You can check the status of your fees by logging in to Powerschool or checking with Mrs. Rector in Student Services.
- Morning Announcements: Attention Future Juniors and Seniors. We are looking for our next announcement crew for 26-27! Sign up in Google Classroom if you are interested. We will hold auditions the week of May 18th.
- Ohio Youth Alive: Salt and Light is Elyria’s Ohio Youth Alive Club with the mission of finding light in a dark place through God. We will be having our last meeting of the year in room 224 on Tuesday, May 12th right after school. We hope to see you there!
KEYSTONE
- Yearbooks: The KHS yearbook staff wants your photos from prom! Please send any pictures you would like to potentially have included in the 25-26 yearbook to Michael.hogue@keystonelocalschools.org
- Dance Team: Dance Team tryouts are May 12th, 14th, & 15th from 3-4 in the KHS gym. See Ms. Heff if you have any questions.
- Attention Seniors: Seniors, Tuesday May 12th is the last day for lunch charges. All lunch debt must be paid by Friday, May 15th.
NORTH RIDGEVILLE
- Adaptive Fitness Yoga: Winter registration is open for adaptive aerobic classes on Thursday evening and yoga classes on Saturday mornings. Classes are held at Westlake High School To learn more click here or email Angela at adaptedfyp@gmail.com
- Grief Support: Grief Speaks is a website and resource bank created by grief expert Lisa Athan, MA. Lisa works as a grief therapist, as well as an advocate and educator around the country. Her website features information on topics such as children/adults on grief and about 50 other grief related topics. To access her website and learn more, go to our website.
- Youth with Complex Needs: The Ohio Department of Health’s Complex Medical Help Program (CMH) connects individuals with special health care needs to a network of medical providers and helps them obtain payment for needed services.
- Fitness Classes: Try a new fitness class through United We Sweat. FREE for all ages. Whether you enjoy Zumba, kickboxing or yoga, there’s something for everyone! Virtual and in-person classes are available.
- Therapeutic Art: Elyria Public Library has several therapeutic art groups for both teens and adults, run by a certified art therapist that are free to attend. They also offer several other crafting events too. Events may be held at their Central Branch or other locations throughout the county.
- Tutoring: Families with children on an IEP (Individualized Education Program) can apply now for free tutoring during the spring semester through Learning Aid Ohio. Learning Aid provides grant funding so that families can access one-to-one, in-person educational support for students. Learning Aid grants are open to students who are Ohio residents, on an IEP, and live in families whose household income is less than 400% of the federal poverty level.
Wellington
- Attention Students: Students, please check your school email to see if you have received overdue library book notice. Books can be returned or renewed at any time throughout the school day.
