Lorain County JVS High School

Attention LCJVS - We placed a flyer in every lab teacher and academic teacher's mailbox a few minutes ago.  Please put this flyer up in your room in a prominent place and remind your students that this food drive starts Monday, Feb. 9^th and runs through Friday, Feb. 20th.  Students can bring their canned goods to the SkillsUSA table in the front lobby before school starts on these days and SkillsUSA leadership team members will check them in, so the student and lab get credit for donations.  The highest donating lab will get a pizza party and the highest donating student will get a gift card. I have also attached the flyer in case you need more than one!

 

Please help us promote this worthy cause.  We would like to get 3-5 cans average per student in each lab. Thanks!

AMHERST:

• Free Breakfast: Starting January 6, 2026, all K-12 Amherst students will be eligible for a free breakfast. Each meal includes the main entrée of the day, 2 frit choices, and milk. Please remind your students to know their 6-digit student number to receive breakfast.

 

AVON:

• 2026 Commencement Ceremony: Avon High School’s 2026 Commencement Ceremony is taking place on Tuesday, May 26^th, 2026.
• Class of 2026 Stay Connected: Order your purple cap & gown now! You can find the link on our website. Graduation is NOW Tuesday, May 26^th at 7pm. Mark your calendars for the following dates: Senior DC Trip is March 18^th-21^st, Prom is Saturday, May 9^th, Senior awards are May 18^th, Senior Exams are May 18^th-20^th, Graduation Practice is May 22^nd and Graduation is May 26^th.
• ACT Testing: There will be no school for Freshmen, Sophomores, and Seniors on Wednesday, Feb. 25^th as the Juniors will be taking the ACT. There is no registration required for this test. Juniors: Please report to school at the regular time, 7:30am. You will take a seat in the AHS Commons and wait to be dismissed to your testing room. An email will be sent to your avoneagles account providing you with your room assignment. If you have any questions, please see Mr. Castrilla.
• We Love Sully: Perhaps the biggest moment of the month will be when Officer Pat Sullivan retires from the Avon Police Department, a second retirement, and perhaps his most rewarding. Officer Sullivan has kept us safe for more an a decade and to say we value and adore him is an understatement. Sully has been ever vigilant, and advocate for students, and the epitome of an “officer and a gentleman.” From Sully’s roadside and parking lot safety videos, See Something Say Something presentations, and making sure families have food and students have supplies, Officer Sullivan has been a key component to our school climate. The Eagles have LOVED Suly. We wish him and his wife, Karen a beautiful true retirement.
• Singing Valentines Are Back: Attention Students and Staff.  Singing Valentines are back! For $5 you can purchase a sing-a-gram performed by our fabulous a cappella groups for a friend, teacher, or significant other. Stop by the table at lunch to get your today. Sales are limited, so don’t wait to by yours. 

 

AVON LAKE

• Drama Club News: Avon Lake High School Drama Club Calendar Fundraiser. Avon Lake Drama Boosters is the supporting organization for the ALHS Drama Program. We use funds to supplement theater improvements, feed our cast and crew, and many other ways that help make our productions extra special! For this fundraiser, the students are seeking people to “sponsor. 

 

CLEARVIEW:

 

• Thought for the Month: “If you take too long deciding what you want to do with your life, you’ll find you’ve done it!”
• CCP Mandatory Meeting: There will be a mandatory informational meeting for new College Credit Plus students and families on Thursday, February 19^th at 5:30pm during conferences. You must attend with a caregiver if you plan to take CCP classes in the future. Please see your school counselor with questions.
• Valentines Day Bake Sale: The Senior Class will be doing a Valentine’s Day Bake Sale after school and will run until Friday. We will be selling sugar cookies and brownies that will be $1.00 each. Please help support our class!
• Youth for Youth: Youth for youth will meet on Tuesday, February 17^th after school in room 208. Please bring ideas to share to plan for our next activity.
• Student Council Meeting: Attention Student Council Members… there will be a meeting on Thursday, February 12^th in room 114 right after school. We will be discussing shirt designs, so your input is needed. If you have any questions please talk to Mr. Gulish or Mr. Walter.
• Softball Tryouts: Softball tryout times have been changed. Tryouts for high school softball will begin on Tuesday, February 17^th and run through Thursday, February 19^th from 6-7:30pm in the DMS gym.
• NHS Meeting: National Honor Society will meet on Tuesday, February 24^th after school in room 109. All members should plan on attending.

 

COLUMBIA:

• LCJVS Applications: Interested in attending JVS next year? LCJVS Applications due Thursday, February 12^th.
• 2026 Yearbook Sales: The CHS yearbook staff is working hard to capture the essence of what it means to be a student this year, and we’re proud of the way the yearbook is coming together. To purchase, buy online by clicking on the link here: Note: We do not order many extra yearbooks to guarantee a yearbook, preorder your student a copy today!
• CHS Early Release: CHS is on an early release this Thursday, Feb. 12^th. Students will be released at 11:15. Grab and Go lunches will be available for purchase at 11am. Transportation will be provided for CHS students at 11:15. JVS students must provide their own transportation home from CHS on Thursday, Feb. 12^th.
• No School: There is no school for CHS students on Friday, Feb. 13^th and Monday, Feb. 16^th.
• Attention Class of 2026 & 2027: We are looking for students and staff to model in the Prom Fashion Show. No experience needed. Check the flyer and Google Form to sign up.

• Seniors: Schedule an appointment to meet with Miss Neff/Ms. MacDonald. Transcripts are sent through Schoolinks. Log in through Clever. The FAFSA is now open. Need help? See Miss Neff or Ms. Vega Hamilton.
• Juniors: PSAT results are in. If you didn’t receive a link from College Board, please see Miss Neff. The ST is Thursday, March 5^th at CHS.
• Columbia Service Club: Wednesday, Feb. 11^th from 2:50 – 3:20pm in Rm. 18.
• Bake Sale: The French classes will be having a bake sale fundraiser on Tuesday, February 17^th in room 8 before and after school.
• Track and Field: Track and Field practice starts 2/23 at 3pm in the High School Cafeteria. Any student with questions should see Mr. Potter.

 

ELYRIA

• LCJVS Applications: If you are planning on attending LCJVS next school year, now is the time to apply. Please go to the Lorain County JVS website to apply. You do need a parent to help with the application process, which will take about 20 minutes to complete. If you have any questions, please see Mr. Belizaire in room 309W.  
• Elyria Community Partnership: The Elyria Community Partnership is looking for 11^th and 12^th grade students interested in their community and in gaining experience in the field of community development. Interested students can apply online or see Ms. Battle in the Team 1/3 office.
• Chess Club: Chess Club meets on Thursdays in room 306W after school from 2:50-4pm. Staff and students from any skill level are welcome. We will see you there.
• Free Driving School: Are you 15 ½ years old or older? Would you benefit from FREE driving school? If so, please complete the quick Google Form titled Driving School-Big Brothers Big Sisters on your Class of Google Classroom! Once you complete that someone from Big Brothers Big Sisters will reach out to you soon. If you have any questions, see Ms. Belchere in the team 2/4 office or email her.
• Ohio Youth Alive: Salt and Light is Elyria’s Ohio Youth Alive Club, with the mission of finding light in a dark place through God. We will be meeting in room 224 on Tuesday, February 17^th right after school. We hope to see you there. 
• Attention Strive: There will be a STRIVE meeting Thursday, February 19^th starting promptly at 7:50am. Dr. Faircloth from the JVS will be our guest speaker. He is a favorite and you don’t want to miss it. See you there!
• Career Conversations: The next Career Conversation is Thursday, February 19^th and is featuring a music therapist. If you have an interest in music and helping others, this could be a career path for you! Sign up in your grade level Google Classrooms or see Mrs. Anderle.

 

FIRELANDS:

• Pie the Teacher: Today is the last day to purchase your Pie Tickets. They are $5 and offer you a chance to pie 1 or 6 teachers during the dodge ball tournament! Purchase at lunch or in Room A114 (Falcon Fuel). All proceeds are going to Prom 2026.
• College Credit Plus: TONIGHT @ 5pm is our CCP information night. This meeting is open to all students interested in taking college classes in the future. This session will provide you with the information that you need to be successful.
• Professional Day is Canceled: Due to the amount of calamity days we have used, tomorrow is no longer a PD day for teachers. Students are required to attend school tomorrow.
• Prom Planning Meeting: Attention Prom Squad. We will be having a planning meeting TODAY during FIRE B in Room A114 (Falcon Fuel). Class Officers, we need you there!
• Freshman Forward: Freshman Forward WILL be meeting today! All Freshman & Seniors in Freshman Forward please meet today in the NESt for FIRE B!
• Attention Softball Players: Are you interested in playing softball this spring? High School softball tryouts will be held Tuesday, February 17^th from 4pm-6pm in the Middle School gym. If you are planning to try out, make sure you have gym shoes, softball equipment and arrive on time.
• PRIDE Raffle: We will have another Falcon PRIDE Raffle on Friday, 2/13. Don’t forget to enter the raffle by going to the PBIS Rewards app using Clever and use your points to enter. Just click on the raffle tab on the app and enter to win. You will have until 12:30 on Friday to enter to win! Ther will be one winner drawn from each grade level! • Valentine’s Candy Grams: You can purchase candy grams through TODAY for $5 each. Each one will include a chocolate rose and a note to send to anyone of your choosing! Purchase at lunch or in Room A114 (Falcon Fuel).

 

 

 

KEYSTONE

• KHS Yearbook: The KHS yearbook wants your winter formal photos! If you attended this weekend’s dance and have photos you’d like to see in this year’s publication, please email them to Mr. Hogue (that’s H-O-G-U-E) as soon as possible! We will begin working on the pages at the end of this week and want as many photos as we can possibly get!
• Attention Students:  Reminder No School tomorrow. 
• Second Harvest Food Bank: Did you know that 1 in 6 people in Lorain County struggles with food insecurity, and many of them are students just like us? Hunger isn’t something that only happens far away – it’s happening in our own neighborhoods. That’s why our school is participating in the Feed the Need Food & Funds Drive, supporting Second Harvest Food Bank’s Harvest for Hunger campaign. Here’s the impact: $1 can provide meals, Just 1.2 pounds of food equals 1 meal. That means even one item or $1 can make a real difference. Bring in non-perishable food items or donate online using the QR code on the flyers around school. Our school is competing against others based on meals per student, so every donation counts toward helping families – and helping our school. This is our chance to turn generosity into action. Let’s step up, support our community, and Feed the Need.
• Attention Students: Feed the Need just became a class-versus-class competition! Starting now, each grade level is competing to see which class can donate the most food and funds to support local families through Second Harvest Food Bank. Bragging rights are on the line – but more importantly, real meals for people in our community. Here is how to participate: Class specific boxes are located in the cafeteria on the stage. You can also drop off in your grade-level classrooms: Freshmen: Mr. Vondruska or Ms. Szcepanik’s classrooms, Sophomores: Ms. Saxton, or Ms. Heffernan’s classrooms, Juniors: Mrs. Puterbaugh or Mr. Jone’s classrooms, Seniors: Mr. Hogue or Coach Griswold’s classrooms.  

 

NORTH RIDGEVILLE

• Adaptive Fitness Yoga: Winter registration is open for adaptive aerobic classes on Thursday evening and yoga classes on Saturday mornings. Classes are held at Westlake High School To learn more click here or email Angela at adaptedfyp@gmail.com
• Grief Support: Grief Speaks is a website and resource bank created by grief expert Lisa Athan, MA. Lisa works as a grief therapist, as well as an advocate and educator around the country. Her website features information on topics such as children/adults on grief and about 50 other grief related topics. To access her website and learn more, go to our website.
• Wellness: Sometimes we feel the holiday hangover. Our days are filled with loss, stress, depression and maybe a little anger too. The Cuyahoga Alcohol, Drug Addiction, Mental Health Services Board has put together a book with practical strategies if you find yourself starting to feel down. Topics include grief, loss, change, stress, recovery, sadness, and financial strain for both adults and teens. Check it out!
• Youth with Complex Needs: The Ohio Department of Health’s Complex Medical Help Program (CMH) connects individuals with special health care needs to a network of medical providers and helps them obtain payment for needed services.
• Fitness Classes: Try a new fitness class through United We Sweat. FREE for all ages. Whether you enjoy Zumba, kickboxing or yoga, there’s something for everyone! Virtual and in-person classes available.
• Therapeutic Art: Elyria Public Library has several therapeutic art groups for both teens and adults, run by a certified art therapist that are free to attend. They also offer several other crafting events too. Events may be held at their Central Branch or other locations throughout the county.
• Tutoring: Families with children on an IEP (Individualized Education Program) can apply now for free tutoring during the spring semester through Learning Aid Ohio. Learning Aid provides grant funding so that families can access one-to-one, in-person educational support for students. Learning Aid grants are open to students who are Ohio residents, on an IEP, and live in families whose household income is less than 400% of the federal poverty level.

 

Wellington

 

• Attention Students: Students, please check your school email to see if you have received an overdue library book notice. Books can be returned or renewed at any time throughout the school day.
• Seniors - Endowment Scholarships are available NOW. Endowment Scholarships became available on January 1st. Endowment Scholarships are due by Friday, February 27, 2026. The Local Scholarships become available on Monday, January 12th, 2026. Local Scholarship applications are due by Monday, March 9, 2026. See Mrs. Wyman if you have any questions. 
• Colorguard: Attention to students 9 - 11th grade who are interested in the color guard that performs with the marching band. Mr. Pope is hosting mini clinics to learn how to spin flags and rifles, as well as intricate body movement! If you have ever been interested in learning how to do the visuals that you've seen on the football field when the marching band performs, then be sure to come to the mini clinics. This is not the audition. This is just to give you an opportunity for students learn something new. The clinic will be on Wednesday, February 11^th in the WHS Gym from 6pm-7:30.
