AMHERST:
• Ohio Youth Survey’s Reminder: Marion L. Steele will soon offer the Ohio Healthy Youth Environments Survey, or OHYES!. This news item answers some basic questions about the survey’s purpose, content and administration. What is the purpose of the survey? Our school district is committed to offering every student the best chance for success. That may include support services for students facing depression, anxiety, bullying, or other challenges. To meet students’ needs, we must first understand what challenges they face. The survey is designed for children age 12 and about. We are asking students in grades 10-12 to participate. • Second Harvest: Shoutout to our amazing Student Volunteers! Our school social workers, Ms. Maiorca and Mrs. Krichbaum, want to recognize these outstanding students who helped pack 95 food boxes for today’s Second Harvest Food Distribution. Their hard work and kindness make a real difference in our community!
• ITALY 2027: Marion L. Steele High School is excited to announce an International Educational & Cultural Trip to Italy! Students will visit Rome, Florence, Venice and Assisi from March 25-April 2, 2027. Join us for an informational meeting on November 13 at 6pm in the Steele CLC to learn more about this unforgettable experience! Spots are limited to the first 31 students – don’t miss out! Questions? AVON:
• 2026 Commencement Ceremony: Avon High School’s 2026 Commencement Ceremony is taking place on Tuesday, May 26th, 2026.
• AHS Winter Concert Series: The Winter Concert Series is upon us! Coming join us in the Performing Arts Center! Band Concert is December 10th at 7pm. Choir Concert is December 17th at 7PM and Orchestra Concert is December 18th at 7pm.
• Cans for Cause: Please donate to our Food Drive, brought to you by Key Club with all donations going to CRS. Bring in quality food, 100 packs of Ramen does NOT count. Bring to your 2nd period class before school or bring to class. There will be a MOVIE REWARD for classes that hit 100 cans on a date in January during 2nd and 3rd period. Class with the most amount of cans picks the movie. We highly recommend canned fruits, veggies and meats.
• Model UN Conference: The Model United Nations conference is coming up. There will be plenty of food and fun. If you are already a member of Model UN sign up in google classroom. If not, don’t hesitate to join the Google Classroom site and register. There are plenty of upperclassmen with lots of experience who can help with the conference preparation process, and the conferences are always a lot of fun.
AVON LAKE
• Drama Club News: Avon Lake High School Drama Club Calendar Fundraiser. Avon Lake Drama Boosters is the supporting organization for the ALHS Drama Program. We use funds to supplement theater improvements, feed our cast and crew, and many other ways that help make our productions extra special! For this fundraiser, the students are seeking people to “sponsor.
CLEARVIEW:
• Clipper Blankets: Snag your Clipper Blanket for our Prom fundraiser! They are supersoft, and perfect for winter! Support Prom with $20 cash ONLY to Mrs. Koehn! She is taking orders through Friday, December 12th.
• Spring Musical: Auditions for the Spring musical, The Addams Family, will be next Tuesday and Wednesday at 3pm in the auditorium. You only need to attend one day. See Mr. Ward for details or with questions.
• Clipper Times: The winter edition of The Clipper Times will be on sale next Wednesday (12/10) during Homeroom and lunches for $1. Subscriptions for the remainder of the year are also available for $5 for the remaining 5 issues. See Mr. Ward or a yearbook staff member, for more information or your copy.
• Attention Seniors: If you are applying to a college or university Regular Decision, make sure to apply by the following deadlines: Jan. 1, Feb. 1, Mar 1. It is YOUR responsibility to check each school’s website to see what their deadlines are! Please see your school counselors or College NOW advisor with any questions.
• Track and Field Meeting: There will be a brief track and field meeting on Tuesday, December 16th at 7:35am in the auditorium. All athletes who wish to participate please come to learn more information on the upcoming season.
• Soccer Open Gym: Beginning Wednesday, December 10th, there will be a Soccer open gyms at Vincent Elementary every Wednesday from 6:15pm-7:45pm. This is for students in grades 8-12. Contact Coach Lamont or see the flyers around the school for more information.
COLUMBIA:
• Volunteers Wanted: Attention Students looking for Volunteer hours. Volunteer for the Secret Santa Shop. Sign up on our website.
• Trivia Night: Join Drama for their Trivia Night! Check out the flier or our website for the link to sign up your team!
• Columbia Local Science Fair: Calling all interested students. Submit research project information to Mrs. Karl by December 19th. Project judging will be Thursday, January 15th at 6pm in the CHS cafeteria.
• Leader’s Club: Leader’s Club is postponed for December 10th and rescheduled from Thursday, December 18th from 2:50-3:30pm.
• Literature Club: Literature Club will meet on Tuesday, December 16th from 2:30-3:30pm.
• Student Council Malley’s chocolate bars: Candy Bars are for sale in the main office for $2.00.
ELYRIA
• Boys Soccer Lifting: Boys interested in playing soccer for Elyria High School, we will have lifting after school here at the high school starting December 1st. If will be on Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays from 2:50-4pm in the weight room. Questions, please ask Coach Belizaire in 309W or Cach Kurt.
• Sophomore JVS Field Trip: Sophomore JVS Field Trip: Sophomores, if you plan on attending the field trip to the Lorain County JVS on Wednesday, January 28th, you must turn in your permission slip into the Team 1/3 office by Wednesday, December 17th. The BSA in the office will have a box for your applications and extra applications if you need. Questions, please see Mr. Belizaire in room 309W.
• Students Spreading Awareness for Animals: Attention Students Spreading Awareness for Animals. We will meet this Thursday after school in room 105. New members are always welcome!
• Students Spreading Awareness for Animals: Help make a shelter animal’s season just a little brighter! Students Spreading Awareness for Animals is collecting items to donate to local shelters. Here is what we need: canned or dry dog, cat or small animal food and treats, cat litter, towels, blankets, sheets, cleaning supplies, and new or gently used grooming items, beds, cages and toys. Please bring items to room 105 by the end of the school day on December 18th. See Mrs. Lastafka or Students Spreading
• 2026 Football Weight Training: Weight Training has started for the 2026 football season. If you are not enrolled in the sports performance class and you would like to play football next year, stop in and see Coach Wilson in Room 208W as soon as possible. He will give you information about weight training today. We are looking for individuals who are committed to changing the culture and willing to work hard to make that happen.
• JVS Career Night: Seniors, the JVS Career Night events are designed to give you an in-depth look at the career pathways and hands-on opportunities available to them after high school. They are hosting one on Wednesday, December 10th from 5:30 to 7pm at the JVS in Oberlin. Please RSVP. Questions, please see Mrs. Anderle or Mr. Belizaire.
• ACT Prep Classes: Attention Juniors… College Now will be providing free ACT classes to prepare for the ACT taking place in February. The sign up will be on Class of 2027 Google Classroom beginning on December 8th. Space is limited.
• Freshman and Junior Class Chipotle Fundraiser: Please support the Freshman and Junior Class by ordering from Chipotle on Wednesday, December 10th and Thursday December 11th at the W. River location! It is from 4-8pm. Brave the cold and come out to Chipotle for dinner and show the flyer on your phone. Be sure to let the cashier know it’s for Elyria High Freshman or Junior Class! Thank you for your support.
• Ohio Youth Alive: Salt and Light is Elyria’s Ohio Youth Alive Club with the mission of finding light in a dark place through God. We will be meeting in room 224 on Tuesday, December 9th right after school. We hope to see you there!
• National Honor Society Members: Our next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, December 10th. You may attend the morning or afternoon meeting. Attendance will be taken. See Google Classroom for more information.
• Chess Club 1st meeting: Good Morning, if you are interested in learning about chess or already like to play, then we are the place for you! On Thursday, December 11th, we will have our first meeting in room 306 in the Washington building. All are welcome, we hope to see you there. Questions, see Mr. Belizaire in room 309W.
• Marvel Club: Marvel Club will meet for the last time this semester today after school in room 302W. We hope to see you there!
FIRELANDS:
• Washington DC: If there is anyone who is still interested in going on the trip to Washington DC (3/30-4/1), we have 5 spots still available! Please see Mr. Hartsel ASAP!
• SAFE: SAFE will be meeting today in the front conference room in the main office during Lunch C! Anyone interested in learning more, please bring your lunch. We look forward to seeing you there!
• FHS Choir/Band Holiday Concert: Come join the merriment, Thursday, December 11th at 7pm as the FHS Choir and Band put on their Holiday Concert. This event is free for the whole community, come early and grab a seat!
• Thailand: Are you interested in traveling to Thailand? This is your last chance to enroll for the trip before enrollment closes for good on Monday, December 15. Please see Mrs. McCary or Mrs. Rice for enrollment details. Don’t miss out on this adventure of a lifetime.
• Yearbook: Attention all students, now is the perfect time to order your yearbook. Order them today at Jostens.com or stop by and see Mr. Jones in room A208 if you have any questions.
KEYSTONE
• Midterms: Feeling stressed as midterms approach? Looking to strengthen your study strategies? Sign up for the Managing Midterm Stress Connections Workshop coming up! Next Thursday, December 11th It is interactive and will help each of you feel confident going into your tests! (freshmen – don’t be afraid to attend!) Sign ups are in your email.
• Attention Sophomores: Are you interested in attending the JVS? There will be an informational session on Thursday, December 11th during Connections. If you plan on applying, you must be in attendance for this meeting. Sign ups can be found in your email.
• Attention Students: If you become ill during the day, please tell our teacher that you do not feel good and would like to go to the office or clinic. You will then call your parents to get permission to go home. We must speak to your parents so it’s important that you come to the main office! We do NOT use cell phones for this!
• Environmental Club: Environmental Club will have a meeting on Wednesday, December 10th right after school in Ms. Szczepanik’s room. Everyone is welcome, even if you haven’t been to a meeting yet this year!
• Photography Club: Photography club meeting will be after school on Wednesday in Mr. Broad’s room with a guest speaker.
