ASSOCIATE SCHOOL NEWS:

AMHERST:
• Comet Spirit the Fall: Our fall athletics and activities are in full swing! Come out and cheer on your classmates at games, matches, and events. The energy in the stands has been incredible so far – let’s keep it going! Every time you show up, our Comet teams feel the support and thrive on it. • Student Home Event Pass: Don’t miss a game! A Student Home Athletic Event Pass is available for $50 and gives you entry to all HOME regular-season athletic contests at both high school and junior high events. (Note: this does not include OHSAA or SWC tournament events.) If you haven’t picked one up yet, contact Mr. Wolf at casey_wolf@amherstk12.org for details and a passcode to purchase.
• Winter Sports Off Season/Coaching Contacts: Winter Sports are right around the corner. If you have interest in participating in a winter sport, please reach out to our winter coaches to see what information they have for you regarding any volunteer activities they have going on between now and the official start date or any information they may have regarding tryouts/first official practices. Reminder that you will need to have a valid physical on file before the first official day and that your Final Forms account will need to be up to date.
AVON:
• Band Practice on Wednesday: If you park in the south lot on the ban practice field, please make sure you move your car by 3pm. This area of the parking lot needs to be cleared for band to practice.
• Key Club Announcement: Key Club is having its first Service Project Meeting this Thursday, October 16th in the Commons after school. Key club members are welcome to join us in making cards for our Veterans. Please make sure you have filled out your enrollment form on our google classroom.
• SOUPer Bowl Food Drive – The Deadline to donate is October 17th at 3pm. Please help beat Avon Lake this year for our SOUPer Bowl drive. Scan the QR code on our website or click this link to donate: https://souper-bowl-october-2025.cheddarup.com
• Learning Labs Are Here: Learning labs are subject specific, drop-in style support for students. Learning lab is available to students before school and during 1st, 4th, and 7th periods. This is an opportunity for students to get extra help on topics or assignments outside of their regular instructional time. Students must bring questions, assignments, class materials, or notes which they would like extra support with to the learning lab.
AVON LAKE
• Food Drive: Avon Lake City Schools is collecting non-perishable food items for our local food pantry in a friendly competition against Avon Local Schools. ALCS brought home the title last year, and in order to defend it, we need all of our Shoremen and Shoregals to step up to the plate, pitch-in, and knock this year’s effort out of the park!! Peanut butter, cereal, canned meats and fruits, and paper products can all be delivered to drop off locations at each of our school buildings and throughout the community, culminating on Friday, October 17, 2025, with our football game against Avon. • Souper Bowl Food Drive: Help score a touchdown for your local food pantry. This event is always a highlight of fall, but our pantry shelves are especially low right now. While monetary gifts are still vital, we also want to put special emphasis on food donations this year. Every can and box truly make a difference. Donations of canned foods can be dropped off in the Commons any time before noon on October 17th. Let’s keep the trophy here in AL!!
• Drama Club News: Avon Lake High School Drama Club Calendar Fundraiser. Avon Lake Drama Boosters is the supporting organization for the ALHS Drama Program. We use funds to supplement theater improvements, feed our cast and crew, and many other ways that help make our productions extra special! For this fundraiser, the students are seeking people to “sponsor
CLEARVIEW:
• Picture Retakes: Picture re-takes will be on Thursday, October 23rd in the Auditorium. You may go with teacher permission or during your lunch and study hall.
• Anime Movie Night: If you are interested in participating in the Anime Club Movie Night, you must have a signed permission slip handed in by this Thursday! There are only 20 spots open, so it is first-come, first-served. No permission slip, no movie. We will be watching “Jujutsu Kaisen 0” on Thursday, October 16th. This will last from about 3-5 o’clock. The Google Classroom Code is duxfft2. Please see Mrs. Phillips in room 117 for the permission slip.
• NHS Carwash: NHS is having a car wash on Saturday in the High School parking lot from 11am-2pm. Come out and let us clean your ride.
• Girls Basketball Tryouts: Girls’ basketball tryouts will be Monday, October 27th and Tuesday, October 28th from 3-4:30pm in the high school gym. See Coach Dimacchia with any questions.
• Baseball Meeting: Anyone interested in playing baseball this spring, there will be an informational meeting on Thursday, October 16th right after school in the gym with Coach Vargo. If you cannot attend, please see Mr. Morehouse in the Athletic Office.
• NHS Carwash: National Honor Society is hosting a car wash on Saturday, October 18th from 11am -2pm in the high school parking lot. Donations only. Come out and support your friends and get that car cleaned up.
• Student Council Meeting: Attention Student Council members, there will be a meeting after school tomorrow with Mr. Walter and Mr. Gulish in room 114. The meeting will last about a half hour. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Walter or Mr. Gulish.
COLUMBIA:
• Student Picture Retakes: Student picture Retakes will be Oct. 29th from 10:30-12:30pm.
• Winter Color Guard: The sign up for Winter Color Guard is in the HS Band and Choir room. No experience is necessary! Everyone is teachable! Opportunity for flag, rifle, and dance and all 7th -12th grade students are welcome. Deadline to sign up is October 28th. Note… Scheduling can be flexible if your involved in another in or out of school activity. Questions? Ask any current color guard member or Coach Ty at tcoleman@clsdraiders.org
• Community Service: Here are the details regarding community service hours. A service log is available in the CHS office, JVS students should see Mrs. Meadows in Student Services. Seniors are required to complete their hours by May 1st of their graduation year. The graduation requirement is 20 hours. Hours that were completed over the summer are eligible.
• Spring Musical Chicago Auditions: Please join us for our biggest show yet! We will be performing Chicago (Teen Addition) Vocal and Acting auditions will be on October 28th the dance call will be October 30th from 6:30-8pm. Sign up using the QR code on the flier around school or on website. We would love a big cast this year – put yourself out there and try something new.
• College Visits: Check your email. Cleveland State University will be here Monday, October 27th, and Ashland University will be here Friday, November 7th.
• College Now: Jamie Vega Hamilton will be at the High School on Thursday, October 23rd. Stop in the guidance office if you would like to make an appointment to see her.
• Softball: Batting cages will be open every Sunday from 11:30-12:30
• Attention Winter Athletes: Final Forms Athletic platform is Open now All sections in Final Forms are due one week prior to your first practice, your current physical needs to be uploaded one week prior to first practice. Students will be denied participation in any practice or scrimmage if above is not completed. Outstanding fees must be paid.
• Volunteer Opportunities: Fall Family Night at Red Wagon Farm is Oct. 21st. Go to the link on our website to sign up.
ELYRIA
• Mobile Dental Clinic: The Mobile Dental Clinic will be at EHS on October 31st. Those wanting to participate can sign up now. Forms will be passed out this week in homeroom. The forms will also be available in the Team offices and Clinic. The Mobile Dental Clinic will exam, clean, and treat all students for FREE or at a low cost.
• Senior Project: Attention Seniors. The Senior Project is now available. Please pick up a packet from Mrs. Anderle before October 24. Interested seniors MUST meet with Mrs. Anderle to discuss their interest before submitting an application.
• Students Spreading Awareness for Animals: We meet TODAY after school in room 105. Hope to see you there.
• Senior Poet: Attention Seniors. The Senior Poem guidelines are now available. This is an opportunity to write a poem that symbolizes your class. The selected poem will be featured in the yearbook and in the graduation announcements. See Mrs. Anderle by October 31st if interested.
• EHS Bowling Teams: Open Bowls will be on Sundays in the month of October, at 3pm. If you want to play you must have a physical form on file in the athletic office. If you have questions, see Coach Rainey in 134 or Coach Moran in the athletic office.
• College Representatives: Representatives from Baldwin Wallace, Holy Cross, and Youngstown State University will be visiting next week. Sign up in your grade level Google Classroom if you are interested in meeting with these colleges.
• Career Conversations: The next Career Conversations featuring professionals in construction and cosmetology and will be during the last week of October. Sign up with the link in the flyer or on your grade level Google Classroom if interested.
FIRELANDS:
• Seniors & Juniors: On Wednesday, October 29th you will have the opportunity to visit Cleveland State University and John Carroll University with College Now. If you would like to attend, please fil out the form in Google Classroom! Space Is Limited!!!
• Earn a Seal: Do you love animals? Do you enjoy giving back to your community? Do you want to earn the Community Service Graduation Seal? If you answered yes to any of these questions, join Falcons for Our Four-Legged Friends! We will meet on Thursday, October 23rd during Fire B in the Next by the broadcasting room to discuss our plans. Please complete the google from to RSVP.
• Attention Seniors: Friday, October 24th will be the Fall Sports Senior Night. Any senior who participated in any fall sports should fill out the form in Google Classroom. This will include Soccer, Volleyball, Cheer, Football, Marching Band, Cross County, Flag, and the training staff. Please have all forms filled out by this Friday.
• Falcon Pride Raffle: We will be having another Falcon PRIDE Raffle this week! Don’t forget to enter the raffle by going to the PBIS Rewards app using Clever and use your points to enter. Just click on the raffle tab on the app and enter to win. You will have until 12:30 Friday to enter to win! There will be one winner drawn from each grade level. • Powderpuff Game: This year’s Powderpuff game will be held, Oct. 22nd @ 6pm with the freshmen playing against the sophomores, the Junior vs. Senior Game will follow. Shirts are $10 and are due to Mr. Hartsel no later than this Friday.
• Choir Concert: The FHS Fall Choir Concert has been moved to Tuesday, October 21st @7pm in the Aux Gym.
• Attention Juniors: Junior class meeting with Urbansky & Ault this TODAY during Fire B in the LIFE room 114. Just look for the Falcon Fuel display! Class Officers, Prom Theme, DJ & Caterer are on the agenda.
KEYSTONE
• Yearbooks: We are down to our final box of 2025 yearbooks. If you are interested in a copy of the 24-25 yearbook, please bring $85 cash or check payable to Keystone High School to Mr. Hogue in room 108. Once this final box is emptied, all available copies will be gone.
• Color War: Registration is now open! Fill out the form posted to your class Google Classroom to register for the color war. As a reminder, this will take place this Friday, October 17th at 6pm at the soccer practice field. Entry is $5 and can be paid to Mrs. Creak via cash or check (checks payable to Keystone Local School District). The first 50 students to PAY will receive a free T-shirt! See Mrs. Creak or a Junior class officer for more information or if you have any questions! See you there!
• Mock Trial: Are you interested in joining Mock Trial for our upcoming season? There will be a short informational meeting after school on Thursday, October 16th in Mrs. Hartman’s room.
• Air and Space Club: The Air and Space Club will meet this Thursday, October 16th after school at 2:30PM in Mr. Broads room. This is our second meeting of the month, and we will be doing aviation and space trivia for prizes! See you soon!
• DC Trip: Registration and first deposits are due for the Washington DC trip by Friday, October 17th. See Mr. Schuster if you have any questions.
• Basketball: All boys interested in playing basketball this season: Quick meeting in the gym on Tuesday, Oct. 21st after school. Calendars and schedules will be handed out. First official day of practice is Friday, Oct. 31st
