AMHERST:
• Comet Spirit the Fall: Our fall athletics and activities are in full swing! Come out and cheer on your classmates at games, matches, and events. The energy in the stands has been incredible so far – let’s keep it going! Every time you show up, our Comet teams feel the support and thrive on it. • Student Home Event Pass: Don’t miss a game! A Student Home Athletic Event Pass is available for $50 and gives you entry to all HOME regular-season athletic contests at both high school and junior high events. (Note: this does not include OHSAA or SWC tournament events.) If you haven’t picked one up yet, contact Mr. Wolf at casey_wolf@amherstk12.org for details and a passcode to purchase.
• Winter Sports Off Season/Coaching Contacts: Winter Sports are right around the corner. If you have interest in participating in a winter sport, please reach out to our winter coaches to see what information they have for you regarding any volunteer activities they have going on between now and the official start date or any information they may have regarding tryouts/first official practices. Reminder that you will need to have a valid physical on file before the first official day and that your Final Forms account will need to be up to date.
AVON:
• Homecoming Dance Tickets on Sale Now! Buy your Homecoming tickets! The Homecoming dance will be held on Saturday, October 4th from 7pm-10pm and tickets are on sale now. The theme is Cosmic Glow. Tickets will be sold until Friday, October 3rd at 3pm. If you would like to bring a guest, forms are available in the main office and students services. • Homecoming Court: Voting for 2027-2029 class representatives for Homecoming court is live now! Vote using the form found on your graduating class Google classroom. Voting will end at 3pm. Seniors: Vote for your Homecoming King and Queen! Voting will remain open from Friday 9/26 – Thursday 10/2 at 12pm. The form is available on your graduating class’s Google classroom.
• Boys Volleyball: Anyone interested in playing boys volleyball this spring should join the Google Classroom with the following code: ope5eh2. If you have questions, see Mr. Lee in Room 170.
• Art Club Meeting: Art Club will host its first meeting on Wednesday, October 1st after school in front of the PAC for a HOCO chalk walk from 2:45pm – 4:15pm. Interested in what art club has to offer? Stop by for more information or check out the post outside Room 160. Hope to see you there.
• AP Scholars: Are you interested in Comparative Government, Environmental Science, or Human Geography? Have you wondered if there is a way for you to earn credit for these classes? Now, there is! With AP Scholars, you can independently study for these courses in preparation for the AP test in May, with help from other students enrolled in these courses. Utilize a collection of study resources, from notes to videos, to practice tests. In addition, in-person review sessions will be held for each to make sure you fully comprehend the content. If you are interested, please attend the informational meeting on Wednesday, September 24th after school in room 245. • Band Practice on Wednesday: If you park in the south lot on the ban practice field, please make sure you move your car by 3pm. This area of the parking lot needs to be cleared for band to practice.
AVON LAKE
• Food Drive: Avon Lake City Schools is collecting non-perishable food items for our local food pantry in a friendly competition against the Avon Local Schools. ALCS brought home the title last year, and in order to defend it, we need all of our Shoremen and Shoregals to step up to the plate, pitch-in, and knock this year’s effort out of the park!! Peanut butter, cereal, canned meats and fruits, and paper products can all be delivered to drop off locations at each of our school buildings and throughout the community, culminating on Friday, October 17, 2025, with our football game against Avon. See the nearby flyer for more information, and let’s work together in friendly competition for this great cause!
CLEARVIEW:
• Homecoming Dance: The Homecoming Dance will be held on Saturday, October 4th. From 7pm – 10pm in the Clearview High School Gym. Tickets will be $10 each (cash only) and ONLY SOLD AT THE DOOR! If you’d like to bring a guest who DOES NOT attend Clearview, please stop in the Main Office and pick up a guest form. Guests must be at least in the 9th grade and cannot be older than 18 years old. Guest forms are due back no later than Wednesday, October 1st.
• Spirit Week: Let’s have a little “SPIRIT” at CHS! All apparel must be school appropriate. If in doubt…please ASK!! Monday – Meme/Character Day, Tuesday – Dress as your type, Wednesday – Anything but a Bookbag, Thursday – Artist Day, Friday – Blue and Gold.
• Career Fair: Attention all students! If you are interested in attending a field trip to the Southern Lorain County College & Career Fait at Keystone High School on Tuesday, October 7th, please either sign up in the counseling office or complete the Google form Mrs. Karr sends out. Please note: You MUST be in good academic standing in order to attend this field trip.
• Clipper Cup: The Clipper Cub is back, baby! The Clipper Cup is the ultimate battle of the classes. The winning class will have a field day with inflatable obstacle courses and yard games at the end of the year. Points are accumulated by competing in challenges, starting with games at the Homecoming Pep Rally next Friday. See Mr. Ward to sign up! Classes who don’t have a full roster for the games will be disqualified.
• Freshman Class Meeting: Attention Freshmen! TODAY, we will be having a class meeting to create our class banner and prepare for hallway decorating. The meeting will be after school in room 116 with Mr. Gulish and will last about an hour. Bring your creativity and art supplies.
• Mandatory Senior Class Meeting: Attention Seniors! Please mark your calendars for the following dates: Mandatory Senior Class Meeting on Friday, February 6th at 7:45 am in the auditorium. Mandatory Senior Class Meeting on Marcy 27th at 7:45 am in the auditorium. We will be discussing important graduation information. Please arrive on time. If you do not attend these meetings, you will not be able to walk at graduation JVS seniors will have transportation back to JVS those mornings. Please see your counselors with any questions.
COLUMBIA:
• Student Academic Fees: Student Academic fees were due Monday, September 15th. Unpaid fees will result in denial of students to participate in extracurricular activities, including the homecoming dance on Oct. 4th. Contact school office for inquiries about payment plans. Chromebook insurance is no longer available.
• Homecoming 2025: Seniors vote for homecoming court is Monday-Wednesday this week. Voting closes at 3pm on Wednesday. Homecoming Crowning will be Friday Oct. 3rd at 6:30pm, Football game vs. Oberlin is Friday, October 3rd at 7pm. The dance will be Oct. 4th from 7pm-9pm in the CHS gymnasium, a dance form must be completed prior to purchasing tickets – printed forms are available in the main office.
• Outdoor Education: Students interested in applying for the outdoor education counselor, please use the link on our website.
• Winter Color Guard: The sign up for Winter Color Guard is in the HS Band and Choir room. No experience is necessary! Everyone is teachable! Opportunity for flag, rifle, and dance and all 7th -12th grade students are welcome. Deadline to sign up is October 28th. • Community Service: Here are the details for community service hours. A service log is available in the CHS office, JVS students should see Mrs. Meadows in Student Services. Seniors are required to complete their hours by May 1st of their graduation year. The graduation requirement is 20 hours. Hours that were completed over the summer are eligible.
• Softball: Batting cages will be open every Sunday from 11:30-12:30
• Employment Opportunity: Strongsville Recreation Center needs lifeguards. See the flier on our website for more information.
ELYRIA
• Yearbook Order Special: Until Sept. 29th, 25-26 EHS yearbooks are their lowest price – a $20 saving plus Jostens’s is offering free icons. Instructions on how to order online were passed out in English classes, posted on Class of Google Classrooms and emailed home to parents/guardians. Payment plans are available. Order before September 29th to take advantage of these savings.
• Homecoming Tickets: Homecoming is October 4th from 6-9 in the EHS Dining Hall. Homecoming tickets will be on sale from September 15th-October 1st. Ticket prices are one for $15 or two for $25. You can purchase them with cash during your lunch periods or before/after school in room 201. If you are paying with a card, you can scan the QR code in the cafeteria, access the tickets through the athletics website, or find the link on your class of Google Classrooms. Out of district guests must have a guest form approved before their ticket can be purchased. Guest forms can be found in your team office. Out of districts guests will not be permitted to go in without a valid ID. Tickets will not be sold after Oct. 1st. • Staff and Students: We need your input! Please take a moment to fill out a quick survey, which will provide a guideline for helping us create an herb garden. It will help us understand your knowledge and interest in growing, cooking with or studying herbs, even those with no interest, we want to hear from you. You can find the Survey QR code in the dining hall. Thank you for your input.
• College Representative Meetings: The University of Kentucky and Ohio Northern University are visiting on October 2nd. Sign up your grade level Google Classroom if you are interested in meeting with these colleges.
• Career Conversations: Career Conversations are back! The conversations are presentations by local professionals that explain what they do in their career path. Our first guest will be representing welding, steamfitting, plumbing, and HVAC. Sign up with the flyer posted. See Mrs. Anderle or Ms. Battle if you are unable to register with the link.
• Craft Club: Formerly known as Knitting Club will be meeting on Wednesdays, October 1st in room 224 immediately after school. Students who are interested in knitting, crocheting, and any arts and crafts this club is for you. See Mrs. Meredith with questions.
• Open Mic Night: The Lorain County Youth Council is hosting an Open Mic Night on Oct. 11 at 4:30pm at the Lorain County Urban League. Join us for a fantastic night of music, poetry, comedy, and much more! All are welcome. Use the link on your class of Google Classrooms to register.
• Homecoming Voting: Homecoming voting starts today and ends Wednesday. The form can be accessed via your Class of Google Classrooms or by scanning a QR code in the dining hall. You can only vote for your own grade level.
FIRELANDS:
• HOCO Guest Forms: Just a reminder that out-of-town guest forms for homecoming are due to Mr. Taylor no later than September 29th. Late forms will NOT be accepted. You can find the forms on Google Classroom as well as the form tree outside the main office. Please reach out to Mr. Taylor with any questions.
• Homecoming Tickets: Pre-sale tickets for the dance will be Monday, Sept. 28th – Friday, Oct. 3rd they will be $15 tickets will be available before and after school in Mr. Hartsel’s room, as well as in the lunchroom. Tickets will be sold at JVS 10/1 during lunch. Tickets will be sold at the dance, but the cost will increase to $20.
• Spirit Week: Spirit Week begins on Monday. Remember to see your spirit officer to get counted as points for your class, you will also get a raffle ticket to be entered into any of the gift card raffles. Monday is PJ Day, Tuesday is Meme Day, Wednesday is Hawaiian Day, Friday is Class Color/Jersey: Senior/Red, Juniors/Black, Sophomore/White, Freshmen/grey.
• HOCO Pep Rally: The Falcons’ Homecoming Pep Rally will be on October 3rd. Are you interested in participating? The signup to volunteer in this year’s pep rally games for your class are in each classes Google classroom. Sign up today to secure your spot.
• Yearbooks: Attention all 10-12th graders who ordered a yearbook, you should have an email from Mr. Jones stating that they are in. Please stop by at your earliest convenience to room A208 to pick it up
KEYSTONE
• Freshman Girls: If you are interested in being a part of the Class of 2029 Chapter of Girltalk please submit your application by Wednesday, October 1st. Those chosen will be notified via email of their acceptance shortly after. We look forward to another great year of girls supporting girls!
• Sophmores: Interested in applying to be KHS’s representatives for the summer Hugh O’Brien Youth Conference? There will be an information session during Connections on Wednesday, Oct. 1st in the cafeteria. If you are interested in learning more, reach out to your counselor or fill out the Connections Workshop Google form.
• Seniors: the MANDATORY Senior Class Panoramic Photo will take place Friday, October 3rd. All seniors will report at 7:30 for the photo and wear either their class shirts or a purple Keystone shirt. Keep an eye out for the Senior Pano Photo order forms.
• We want your photos: The KHS yearbook wants your photos from Homecoming Week! Look for the purple QR codes posted around the building to submit your pictures from dress-up days, Powder Puff, the bonfire, the pep rally, and the homecoming dance! The more, the better! See Mr. Hogue with any questions.
• Looking for Volunteers: High School volunteers are needed to work the KES Lego Club and KES Chess Club. If you are interested in volunteering, please see Senorita to sign up! All club times are 3:25 – 4:40.
• CAVS Tickets: Who wants discounted Cavs tickets? The KHS choirs will be singing the National Anthem at the Cavs games on Sunday, November 2nd at 6pm. If you’d like to come out to support our choirs, you may purchase discounted tickets from any choir member. Tickets are $37 for the upper bowl, and $75 for the lower bowl. Order forms are available in the KHS music room! We’d love to have a HUGE cheering section from Keystone! All family, friends, and staff are encouraged to attend.
• Spanish Club: If you want to join Spanish Club this year, we will have our first meeting on Tuesday, September 30th right after school in room 225. If you can’t make it but would still like to join, please let one of the Spanish teachers know.
